The Big Orange Chorus Welcomes

Mr. Tony DeRosa!

Tony DeRosa grew-up singing barbershop harmony, as his dad Papa Joe was an accomplished musician, choral ensemble director and barbershop society member. Tony also has three quartet gold medals. He sang baritone in the 1992 International Champion Quartet, Keepsake and the 2000 Champs, Platinum. He also directed the nationally acclaimed Tampa Heralds of Harmony Chorus for several years. Tony lives in Orlando, Florida and is a studio vocalist and coach of many quartets and choruses around the country.

Chuck Griffith, Director Emeritus

Chuck Griffith has been active in choral music since his childhood.  He was singing in North Carolina with the Charlotte Choral Society in the mid-1970s when he attended his first barbershop show.  He walked into the Charlotte SPEBSQSA chapter the following week and has been involved in barbershop singing ever since.

After moving back to his hometown of Jacksonville, he formed the Big Orange Chorus and chartered the organization with SPEBSQSA in 1980.  He directed the group through 1995.  During this period, the Big Orange became one of the largest chapters of SPEBSQSA and a highly recognized performing group in the Jacksonville area.  The group won numerous state SPEBSQSA competitions and went on to compete at the international barbershop chorus competition five times.

Chuck became well known in barbershop circles internationally through his travels as an international SPEBSQSA judge and coach.  His favorite memories from that period include directing the combined Big Orange and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in a joint presentation of "The Music Man" and directing the chorus to a standing ovation in a "Keystone Kops" comedy routine at international competition in Louisville in 1991.

Chuck returned to direct the Big Orange in May of 2001.  He brings back his unique talent for developing a quality choral sound presented in an entertaining and often comedic style.
